Wooden house construction
Wooden house construction in Russia is only 12% of the total volume of housing construction. By comparison, this share amounts to 40% in the countries of North America and Western Europe.
Meanwhile, there are all the prerequisites for the development of this industry in Russia: the country has 20% of the world’s timber reserves and Russian enterprises produce modern timber construction materials. CLT-technology is particularly popular with experts and ordinary people. It’s a new generation of engineering advances in wooden house construction: buildings of any number of storeys and complexity of structures are constructed of special CLT-panels.
Such materials provide the building with a number of advantages: ecological compatibility, practicality, fire safety and seismic resistance.
Increasing the use of wood in the construction of buildings will allow to engage a significant share of the forest resource of Russia and will provide a multiplier economic effect with related industries: the production of construction materials, energy, transport, housing and communal services, consumer goods.
On behalf of the President, the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, together with the Ministry of Construction of the Russian Federation, prepared a plan of measures to expand the use of wooden structures in construction. First of all, closely relevant is the question of construction of buildings above the three floors with the use of modern timber structures. Norms for such objects are not yet available in official documents, and work is actively being done to introduce them.
Another challenge is the development of the construction of social facilities based on wood. In some Russian regions, their share is no more than 10%. At the suggestion of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia, the minimum amount of social facilities built of wood should be at least 30% of the total. The corresponding draft resolution has already been prepared by the Authority.
In addition, the development of a mechanism for subsidizing consumer loans for the purchase of wooden houses has been initiated, which will allow families to actively choose new housing.
Wooden house construction should become a driver for the development of the Russian forest industry and urban policy. The industry is able to provide the population with comfortable, safe and modern housing and social facilities.
