Russian Timber Holding to supply finished goods worth $50 million to China

Russian companies took part in a business mission organized by the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade as part of the China Import Expo 2018 international exhibition, which opened on November 5 in Shanghai

“China has established itself as a reliable partner interested in the further development of trade relations with Russia. In the forest industry there is a program of Russian-Chinese cooperation in the development and use of forest resources. Over the past years, we have seen a positive trend both in building up cooperation and increasing the turnover of products of the timber industry complex, ”said State Secretary – Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation Viktor Evtukhov.

The Russian side held three business meetings with relevant associations and enterprises from the PRC. Thus, the ULK group of companies (Arkhangelsk Oblast) and ZHEJIANG MATERIALS INDUSTRY SENHUA GROUP CO., LTD have entered into an agreement on the supply of sawn timber of 220 thousand cubic meters per year, the amount of the contract was $ 50 million.

Two more Chinese companies showed interest in the Russian pulp and paper industry. The Yibo Foundation Group is considering the possibility of investing in the construction of a pulp and paper mill in Lesosibirsk (Krasnoyarsk Territory), and the Shanghai Timber Trade Association has announced the need to import Russian pulp.

Russian participants visited the science technology park in the Kunshan district, which is considered one of the most economically successful and rapidly developing regions of China. The participants met with representatives of the city administration and discussed the possible opening of a Russian technopark on its territory, presenting their unique products and technologies. The parties also discussed the possibility of exchanging specialists and experts.

In 2017, the volume of Russian-Chinese timber turnover increased by 23% compared to 2016 and amounted to 4.8 billion US dollars, of which export volume was 4.2 billion US dollars, and imports – 635 million US dollars. The volume of export shipments in 2017 increased by 23%. Currently, the share of forestry products is 10.7% of total Russian exports to China.
