Sharing best practices and expanding partnership in Asia – Russian companies are to participate in international conference in Seoul
From August 20 to 23, 2018 in Seoul, the International Conference of Technologies for Building Wooden Structures (WCTE)
Seoul (the Republic of Korea) is hosting the World Conference on Timber Engineering (WCTE) – a platform for innovative technical and architectural accomplishments, research results and other developments in the field of wood or timber construction. Launched in 1988, the Conference has been held biennially in different parts of the world.
On the Russian side, the conference will be attended by representatives of the Minpromtorg of Russia, as well as large companies and associations specializing in wooden house engineering and wood structures manufacturing – Association for Wooden House Engineering, LLC “Struktura” (AlpbauTM), LLC TD “Permskiy DSK”, LLC “UK “Segezha Group”, LLC “Uralskiy dom”, CJSC “Vyshni Volochek timber industry enterprise”.
Russian companies will meet with the representatives of the Korean Association for Wooden House Engineering and, as part of sharing best practices, getting familiar with the specifics of the Korean market and assessing prospects for collaboration, will visit a series of Korean companies engaged in added-value wood conversion (KM Beam, SY WOOD, Sunchang Corporation, etc.). Also, Russian representatives will meet with their colleagues from KITA (Korea International Trade Association) to discuss matters related to trading cooperation between Russia and Korea.
“We strive to expand the use of wooden structures in the construction of private houses and social facilities. Basically, we do have the production facilities to achieve that: Russian enterprises produce modern and competitive (including on the foreign market) materials, such as laminated veneer lumber (LVL), oriented strand board (OSB) and plywood. Even today more than twenty large Russian companies offer citizens prefabricated wooden houses. As for construction of multi-storey houses, we have developed standards for new types of materials. And we have already prepared projects of high-rise eco-quarters in Moscow and the Moscow region, which, we hope, will be launched as pilots by the business together with regional administrations in the coming years”, says Viktor Evtukhov, State Secretary – Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation. “Such events as the World Conference on Timber Engineering in Seoul promote networking and sharing best practices between the companies and experts of the APR countries in the field of wooden house engineering which, undoubtedly, contributes to the development of this sphere in our country”.
WCTE 2018 is dedicated to applied research solutions in the sphere of woodworking and wood or timber engineering and will be attended by over 700 participants. The main subject of the conference will be setting a course for reinstatement of timber as the major material in modern construction. During the conference the participants will discuss building structure modeling, CLT technology, erection of multi-storey wooden structures, as well as trends, strategy and tools for the development of the woodworking industry.
WCTE 2018 will include talks by six invited lecturers – experts in the field of woodworking, wooden house engineering and design of wooden structures. Also, eight parallel sessions are planned within the framework of the event.
WCTE 2018 is organized by National Institute of Forest Science of the Republic of Korea (NIFoS).
